The Queen's Visit To County Hall

In the spring of 1980 the Queen visited Leicestershire's County Hall buildings in Glenfield.

Many children from various schools boarded buses on a very wet morning and stood on the grass facing the balcony awaiting her majesty to make an appearance.

By the time of her majesty's appearance the grass frontage was quite a quagmire and everyone was truly soaked.

Here a newspaper photograph captures various Newbold Verdon Primary School pupils outside a Reliant bus.

Pictured below is the original programme to the Kirby Shield Football Final. Newbold Verdon Primary School played Measham Church Of England Primary School on a wet Tuesday 18th May 1982 at All Saint's School, Coalville.
Newbold Verdon Primary School beat Measham C of E 3 - 0. Two goals were scored by Christopher Lee and the third by Carl Pears.

The following are all photographs taken in 1972 which have been kindly provided by Tracy Reeser.

Tracy was born in Bond Street, Leicester during October 1961. His father was from Pennslyvannia U.S.A and his mother was from Wigston. His dad was stationed at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome.

His family moved to 22 Oaks Drive, Newbold Verdon and stayed from 1971/72 before moving back to the States.

The following photos were all taken on a day trip organised by Ann Broomfield to Avoncroft Museum Of Buildings, Worcestershire.

Along with these Tracy has also provided photos of his house in Oaks Drive and a day trip to Mallory Park.

Tracy has fond memories of his time at Newbold Verdon and would love to hear from anyone that can remember him – especially: Glenda Neild, Kevin Blackery, Andrew Fawkes, Warren Jones, Gary Palmer, Paul Hextall, Andrew Day, Steven Cope, Derek Vickers and Steven Hammond.
